Office of Multicultural Interests – Community Grants Program

Overview / Purpose

This program funds projects and activities that strengthen the capacity of culturally diverse communities and also supports the development of culturally inclusive policies, programs and services.

Grants are available in three categories:
- Events and activities: Up to $5,000.
- Small projects: Between $5,000 and $20,000.
- Major programs
a) Funding available is up to $50,000.
b) By invitation only.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include not-for-profit and community organisations and associations based in Western Australia.

Unincorporated not-for-profit associations and community groups are eligible only when they are auspiced by an incorporated association or a local government.

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities are those which are based on the following objectives:
- Strengthen the capacity of culturally diverse communities to maintain their cultures and address their needs.
- Support the development of culturally inclusive policies, programs and services.
- Facilitate full participation by culturally diverse communities in social, economic, cultural and civic activities.
- Develop intercultural understanding and promote the benefits of Western Australia's cultural diversity.

Assessment Criteria

he main assessment criteria include:
- Does the project address the grant criteria and is it within the strategic focus area for the grant round? (40%)
- Is there a clear and achievable outcome? (20%)
- Is there an event/project management plan? (20%)
- Is the budget clear and realistic? (10%)
- Has the organisation demonstrated their capacity to manage and deliver the event or activity? (10%)


The following are ineligible for funding:
- Local, State (including government schools) and Australian government agencies.
- Commercial or for-profit organisations.
- Schools or universities.
- Individuals.
- Political organisations.
- Organisations that have overdue funding acquittals from previous OMI funding programs.
- Organisations that have received funding through the Community Grants Program in the previous 12 months.
- Events or activities that:
a) Have already taken place.
b) Start before 1 January 2017.
c) Have alternative sources of funding that are more appropriate.
- Venue hire for an organisation’s own venue.
- Purchase of capital equipment.
- Capital works.
- Interstate or overseas travel.
