Public Art Grants: Declan Apuatimi /J Bird Fellowship
Overview / Purpose
The Declan Apuatimi/J Bird Public Art Fellowship aims to support professional development opportunities for contemporary artists with an identifiable commitment to achieving innovation and excellence in public art practice.
Funding of up to $20,000 is available annually.
Who can apply
The following individuals are eligible to apply:
- Applicants must be a practising artist with a commitment to public art and a minimum of five years practice in public art.
- Applicants must be a Northern Territory resident or have a minimum residence period of three years.
Eligible Activities
Eligible activities include:
- Permanent and temporary visual arts features and installations in design and construction.
- Well designed public spaces that embrace community and encourage artistic and cultural expression.
- Creative interpretation of environment, heritage, history, community and culture.
- Art works created for specific locations.
- Art works produced through community involvement.
- Collaboration of artists, architects and urban designers to create physical environments as features that integrate art into the fabric of communities.
- Performances, festivals, events and community celebrations in public places.
- Formal and informal study such as University-based study, or a structured residency with a national and/or international organisation or recognised artist.
Assessment Criteria
Priority will be given to applicants that:
- Demonstrate enthusiasm to extend their arts practice to a new level.
- Explore new processes and methods.
- Make a significant contribution to public art in the Northern Territory.
Restrictions
Projects involving Indigenous artists, content or community involvement, must include evidence of appropriate consultation, agreement or support.
