Public Art Grants - Development
Overview / Purpose
The Public Art Development Grants exist to encourage a rich, multi layered interpretation of the Northern Territory's built and cultural heritage, natural environment, and dynamic community represented through innovative, excellent and relevant artistic practice in well designed community spaces. The grant supports the development stage of projects which will create artistic work in public places.
Funding of up to $6,000 is available.
Who can apply
The following individuals are eligible to apply:
- Individuals.
- Groups.
- Organisations.
Eligible Activities
Eligible activities include:
- Project expenses, development expenses, artists’ fees and/or materials.
- Development applications are for exploratory stages which may involve the scoping or development of a larger project including community consultation and stakeholder engagement.
- Permanent and temporary visual arts features and installations in design and construction.
- Well designed public spaces that embrace community and encourage artistic and cultural expression.
- Creative interpretation of environment, heritage, history, community and culture.
- Art works created for specific locations.
- Art works produced through community involvement.
- Collaboration of artists, architects and urban designers to create physical environments as features that integrate art into the fabric of communities.
- Performances, festivals, events and community celebrations in public places.
Assessment Criteria
Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Artistic merit.
- Calibre of skills and experience of the artist/arts workers.
- Calibre of skills and experience of the commissioning agency/developers.
- Relevance of the work in relation to its site, place and community.
- Clear project brief.
- Evidence of community support and benefit.
- Accurate and viable budget.
- Appropriate longevity of the work in regards to site/project.
- Accessibility for the public including disability access.
Restrictions
Projects involving Indigenous artists, content or community involvement, must include evidence of appropriate consultation, agreement or support.
