City of Canterbury Bankstown Council – Youth Week Small Grants Program

Overview / Purpose

This program seeks to support local events, workshops and/or activities that target young people, meet the aims of Youth Week 2017 and are aligned to the theme of Youth Week, 'Be Here. Be Heard.'

The aims of Youth Week are to:
- Provide an opportunity for young people aged 12 to 25 to express their ideas and views, raise issues of concern to them, act on issues which affect their lives and create and enjoy entertainment.
- Provide an opportunity for the wider community to listen to young people, and to acknowledge and celebrate the positive contributions made by their efforts and achievements.
- Promote a community focus on issues of concern to young people.

Grants of up to $2,500 are available.

The 2017 NSW Youth Week will be held on 31 March to 9 April.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include organisations that must:
- Operate within the City of Canterbury Bankstown.
- Be an incorporated not-for-profit organisation operating within the City of Canterbury Bankstown.
- Be an incorporated not-for-profit organisation based outside of the City of Canterbury Bankstown but that delivers services to young people within the City of Canterbury Bankstown.
- Have Public Liability Insurance and provide a copy of their Certificate of Currency that has at least $20 million of cover.

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities include those that:
- Are to be conducted in Canterbury Bankstown LGA.
- Are to be open to young people who live or go to school in the City of Canterbury Bankstown.
- Are to be open to young people aged 12-25 years.
- Are to be open to young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Must be alcohol and drug free.


The following are ineligible for funding:
- Schools and school-based parent committees.
- Government agencies.
- Private sector organisations.
- Recurrent administration costs for an existing service, for example rent, salaries, telephone, electricity, insurance, office supplies or photocopying. (Note: in some circumstances funding may be used for the salaries of staff working outside of their normal hours on a project. Specific approval should be sought where an organisation wishes to do this).
- Purchase of alcohol or cigarettes.
- Reimbursement, or informal hire arrangements, for use of a private vehicle or associated petrol costs.
- Political activities.
- Commercial activities or legal and incorporation costs.
- Projects that have already been conducted and where funds are being sought to cover to meet past shortfalls.
- Illegal activities.
