Charles Sturt University (CSU) – CUP Rural and Regional Education Development Program

Overview / Purpose

This program seeks to assist schools and not-for-profit early childhood centres in CSU’s rural and regional campus footprint to acquire equipment or consumables that assist to facilitate student learning and engagement with their schooling in rural and regional areas.

Grants between $500 and $1,000 are available.

A total funding pool of approximately $25,000 is available across all CSU campus communities.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include:
- Primary and secondary schools
- Not-for-profit early childhood centres

Eligible bodies must be incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation or association. Where a body is not incorporated, funding may be requested by an auspicing body (on behalf of an unincorporated body, where the auspicing body accepts accountability for the grant).

Eligible Activities

Eligible expenditures include:
- Purchase of equipment such as sporting equipment, musical instruments, arts and craft materials, scientific or technical instruments, communication and technology equipment.
- Purchase or development of print, electronic or other resources such as books, pamphlets, reports, brochures, CDs, DVDs, Blu Rays, software.

Assessment Criteria

The main assessment criteria include:
- Capacity for the project to meet the specific goals of the grant round to which the application has been made.
- Audience reach of the project.
- Impact of the project.


The following are ineligible for funding:
- Organisation that has:
a) Received funding from the University in a previous Community-University Partnership (CUP) grant round.
b) Not provided a report on that expenditure by the deadline agreed upon by the University.
c) Not expended the funds in accordance with the grant purpose (or any variation agreed in writing by the University).
d) Not expended the funds by the closure of the current grant round.
- Staff costs, training or development.
- Capital expenditure.
- Debt reduction.
- Ongoing operating expenses.
- Indirect expenses that cannot be directly tied to the approved grant project.
- Lobbying (unless this aligns with a government and Community Relations priority of the University).
