Give Where You Live Foundation – Capacity Building Grants

Overview / Purpose

This program aims to strengthen an organisation’s ability to fulfil its’ mission over time, and enhance their ability to have a positive impact on lives, issues and communities.

Grants of up to $30,000 are available.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include organisations that must be:
- Endorsed as a deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) as covered by Item 1 of the table in section 30-15 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.
- Endorsed as a tax Concession Charity (TCC).
- Registered (and up to date) on the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) register.
- Providing services addressing disadvantage in the G21 region (which is defined as the five local government areas of the City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Borough of Queenscliff, Golden Plains Shire and Colac/Otway Shire).

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities include those that address the following focus areas:
1. Leadership capacity
- Strategic and organisational planning
- Development of strategic relationships
- Board development and succession planning

2. Management capacity
- Financial management and systems
- Staff development
- Human resource management
- Strengthening volunteer programs, compliance and legal issues

3. Operational capacity
- Fundraising
- Income diversification
- Communications and marketing  
- Information technology
4. Change management capacity
- Strategic restructuring
- Partnership development
- Mergers, outcomes measurement and evaluation
- Organisational learning and knowledge management

Assessment Criteria

The main assessment criteria include:
- Community need: Ability to clearly define a need and present a grant request that will meet that need. (25%)
- Organisational capacity: Ability to demonstrate organisational competency to deliver and sustain the proposed project. (20%)
- Budget and financial management: Ability to demonstrate financial and budgetary accountability, transparency and effective management. (20%)
- Evaluation and impact: Ability to demonstrate impact on those affected by income, education or health disadvantage and has a clear plan to collect data that will demonstrate this impact. (35%)
